Somewhere in Time

 Friday, December 31, 2010

This movie is horrible!!! Usually I'm not apt to dislike movies but this was horrendous! The main character Richard Collier(Christopher Reeve) was creepy!! At the very beginning of this movie an elderly women hands him a watch and begs him to come back to her. Later that day she dies. When he is on vacation in the Grand Hotel he enters the history room where a picture of a lady hangs. He becomes obsessed with this picture causing him not able to get to sleep and go a little crazy. Finally he is determined to make it to the year 1912. The only way to get there is to get there in your mind, making him hide everything that is from the present. Over and over again he starts chanting to himself that he is in the year 1912. All of these so...interesting...parts in the movie take over 40 min. Remember that he is creepily obsessed. When Elise McKenna(Jane Seymour) and Richard are finally able to be together she falls in love with him within three hours of them knowing each other. All this takes place very quickly and sadly. After some semi-dramatic parts happen they are reunited and .... It's a bad part. The next day they are talking, some of the things were actually funny, when he takes out a penny that is from the present and is ripped from the past into the present, leaving his watch. In the end he dies of heart-break. This entire movie was depressing, weird, creepy, and not at all romantic. Another thing is that they did take Jesus's name in vain. My advise to you is to not watch it!

Oh December! How I'll miss you!

 Thursday, December 30, 2010

This December was amazing, spent with friends and family! Christmas is over. :( It came just as fast as it left. How was your Christmas? On Christmas Eve we decided to let my brother open his presents, that are: Xbox360, remote, Halo ODST(my gift to him), and other things. Actually I'm not too bad on Halo. :) My mom kept begging me to open my presents early but I was obstinate. Isn't it usually the other way around? lol I got a hat, a huge bag, earings, a photo printer, and some other things. I've been doing some scrap booking with my mom. :D Wonderfully this month has been filled with going to the movie theater!!! Awhile ago our home school group went to the movies to see Chronicles of Narna: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which I still need to do a review on, and before that I went with my family to watch it. GO SEE IT! Anyway... lol Also for my friends birthday party she took a couple friends, including me, to go see Tangled! I love that movie so much that I want to buy it! As you can already see this is just a little update on this past month. :) Btw don't you hate it when you pick up your pet and he/she is wet?! :P

Learning from God - 9 - Coming in Prayer

 Tuesday, December 28, 2010

Sorry this is coming a day late. :( This past Sunday I was convicted about what we come to God for. Do we come to God because He is God, or do we come to make our petition known? I have to say that I do the latter. This disturbs my soul. God is omnipotent, omniscient, loving, merciful, and creator of all things, yet one of the main things I come to Him for are requests. Requests after request. Why don't we come to Him in prayer to worship Him and thank Him for all things? I feel so blessed every time I think of the mercy's that He has bestowed upon me. Not only do I need to work on coming before the Lord with a thankful heart but also coming before Him and showing reverence because of the knowledge of who He is. God is your friend that does care about your petitions, but remember that He is God.

Learning from God - 8 - Have No Fear

 Monday, December 20, 2010

I just remembered that I was supposed to do this today. lol :P Fortunately while I was reading my Bible I felt like I should write about courage and not having fear. Recently I witnessed to a guy at my work, who is buddhist, and although I didn't bring him to the Lord I was still, perhaps, able to plant a seed. Most people don't witness because they are afraid to. What can man do to you that the Lord does not permit? Nothing. Yes it is scary at times, and yes it takes practice. When the Lord has put it on your heart to witness, and yet you are afraid, just think about that persons soul. Care enough to say something. They will go to hell without the Lord! This world needs it! I believe us Christians take it for granted the gift we have been given. A lot of people celebrate Christmas, not everyone knows its meaning.

Psalm 27:1-3
The LORD my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though this war may rise against me, in this I confident.
Psalm 56:3-4
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God(I will praise His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What flesh do to me?
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not for I with you; Be not dismayed, for I your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13
For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
Matthew 10:26
Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
Matthew 10:28
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

"The Scarlet Pimpernel"

 Saturday, December 18, 2010

This book was recommended to be by a friend! I was told that this book was a lot like The Count of Monte Cristo, but I find them very different! The similarities are that both books are adventurous, suspenseful, romantic, and you literally can't put the book down, everything to recommend a book for! :D Written by Baroness Orczy, The Scarlet Pimpernel takes place during the French Revolution.

-A surging, seething, murmuring crowd of beings that are human only in name, for to they eye and ear they seem nought but savage creatures, animated by vile passions and by the lust of vengeance and of hate.-
Doesn't that first sentence just foretell a great story?! The main characters are Marguerite and Percy Blakeney, a married couple. Nearly from the very beginning you will read the mysteries surrounding the mysterious Scarlet Pimpernel, who is a man that against all odds saves people from sure death. From vile hate and revenge Chauvelin gives Marguerite the "either-or" choice, that involves her beloved brother Armand and the Scarlet Pimpernel. Giving way she enables him to learn vital information. The reason Chauvelin has this revenge is because he wants to see every aristocrat guillotined, while the Scarlet Pimpernel saves their lives. Desperately she goes to France in hope that she will have time to warn the Scarlet Pimpernel. Because everything ties in with something during this book this is all that I will be able to tell you without spoiling it. Here is something that I do need to tell you before I am done with this review: The Scarlet Pimpernel has quite a bit of cursing in it. Other than this it has nothing else to un-recommend it.
Btw someone help me! I don't know what movie of this book I should watch! If you have seen any of the movies please comment and tell me whether it was good or not. Thanks

Learning from God - 7 - Friends

 Monday, December 13, 2010

Since yesterday was my friend Danielle's birthday and yesterday I was supposed to write a learning from God I thought I would do one on friendship! Sry this is coming a day late I was busy yesterday. Anyway I have been blessed with a wonderful friend and am thankful to God for sending her to me! :D Here are some verses on friendship! Never take friends lightly. :)

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him alone when he falls, for no one to help him up.

Proverbs 27:17
"Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend."

Proverbs 27: 9
"Ointment and perfume delight the heart; and the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel."

The Last of the Mohicans

 Friday, December 10, 2010

Since several people told me that my post Miracle on 34th Street didn't make much sense I will try to do considerably better on this one. :) I wasn't even planning on doing this review, that just tells you how much reviews I'll be doing this month. ;)

To start this out I have to say that people under the age of 15 shouldn't watch it. This movie is rated R for violence. There is some cursing in it, I actually didn't even hear but one, but there is more in it. Also the main male and female character have this one part where they kiss way too much. We fast-forwarded it. Other than that this is a wonderful movie! I absolutely love it! The filming and acting was superb! My brother thinks the music was anti-climatic though. lol Although the first 20 minutes were hard to understand. These two sisters are trying to get to their father's fort when they are attacked by Indians and are betrayed by their guide. Eighteen English officers die. Suddenly when they are also about to be slaughtered three other Indians come to their rescue. Nathaniel is the main one, which I'm not for sure if he is even Indian... Anyway they make it to their father's fort that is being sieged by the French. I forgot to tell you that this takes place during the French and Indian war. Later on when they had surrendered and the entire army was walking through the forest they were one again attacked by Indians. One thing I'm going to help you understand, which my mother had to tell me, is that the two daughters and their father have an Indian chasing them for revenge. He wants revenge because he was taken captive by their father and was made a slave. When he finally was no longer under him he went home to his wife, whom she thought was dead, was remarried. Once the vengeance seeking Indian had killed their father, which was quite gory, he goes after them. All through this Nathaniel and Cora, one of the daughters, have been in love. I'm not going to tell you anymore because I don't want to ruin the surprise. I hate the ending though! It's horrible! If you do happen to watch the movie please comment and tell me what you thought of the end!

Btw Watch/Read means that you either want to watch/read it, depending on the circumstance. Please comment and tell me if this review made sense. lol I think my problem with the last one was that I was going fast while writing it.

Miracle on 34th Street

 Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Before I start this review I have to warn you that this month will be FULL with blog posts! Including reviews! I love December...! Another great Christmas movie is Christmas with the Kranks. It is hilarious! More for 10 and up though.

Miracle on 34th Street is a wonderful and sweet Christmas movie. If you want something to watch with your family this is the movie! This film starts out where neither Susan Walker nor her mother believe in Santa Claus. Kris Kringle wants Susan to believe, which makes him ask her what she wants for Christmas. Susan replies that she wants a home, little brother, and a dad. This is a lot to pull off. ;) When Mr. Kringle is arrested because he lost his temper on a man, whom he hit on the head with a cane, it brings everyone together to stop him from being thrown into an asylum. All of New York City is pulling for him. The only thing, in Miracle on 34th street, that I believe they shouldn't have put in the same category was God and Santa. Although it wasn't too bad. This movie is really good, making you kind of wanting your kids to believe in Santa. I have never believed in Santa. Actually I kept trying to convince my mom that Santa was real but once I snuck out of my room and saw her wrapping presents I no longer did. I won't let my kids, if I ever have kids, believe in Santa either. Great Christmas movie and I hope you are able to see it this December. :D Have a wonderful Christmas!

Learning from God - 6 - Encouragement

 Monday, December 6, 2010

Recently I was thinking of a verse I had read in the Bible that said stuff about building up your brother in the faith. To encourage each other. This made me want to dedicate this post to scripture about building each other up.

"but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin." -Hebrews 3:13
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some encouraging verses.

"Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap a harvest if we do not lose heart." – Galatians 6:9

"But You, O LORD, a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people. Who have set against me all around." -Psalm 3:3-6

"In the multitude of my anxieties within me,Your comforts delight my soul." -Psalm 94:19

"Persuasion"

 Sunday, December 5, 2010

Jane Austen is the author of this marvelous book. Although I'm not sure if it is my favorite or not out of the ones I have read. Persuasion is decidedly different from Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, in respects to this mushy love story all throughout it. I'm not saying that there isn't a love story in this book but it is a lot less passionate. lol The main character is Anne Elliot, who tries to stay as composed as possible and is extremely constant to her feelings. Through the first 80 or so pages I was not entertained. It was not too boring, just not interesting. After that point in the book it is tremendously better! Before I go further on in the post I would like to tell you what this book is about. Here is a summery: Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth were engaged to be married and were deeply in love with one another. Although at the advice of Lady Russel Anne calls it off. After 8 years of separation they are once again thrown into the same company. One thing I did not like was what happened with Mr. Elliot, Anne's cousin, affairs. The circumstance was a little melodramatic. That is all you will get from me. lol Fortunately I was able to read the end of this book at work. :P lol My book is the Oxford World's Classics and they have the original ending after other 'ending.' There was only a slight difference! This did not bother me too bad because I was able to understand the ending better the second time I read it. I am extremely well pleased with how this book ended. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars! :D

"She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older-the natural sequel of an unnatural beginning."

Moi!

 Wednesday, December 1, 2010

As you might remember I told you all that I can't put up pics of myself. Although my mother did say I could put pictures of moi if they didn't show my face! Here are some pics! Sorry this post is so vain. :P Btw should I mention that moi, in French, means me! Also the actress that I look like the most similar is Megan Follows from Anne of Green Gables. :D Her picture is at the bottom of this post.
