October Sky

 Thursday, October 27, 2011

Listen to this while reading this post. lol I love the soundtrack! Coalwood
Well, since it is October I thought I would do a review on this movie. ;) I absolutely love this movie! Anytime I watch it it gives me a drive to do my school! A movie that does that is worth recommending! ;) Despite this movie's many positive elements it does have some cursing and mild inappropriate language on stuff... It really just depends on your family's tolerance level. As for myself I don't like those things(of course) but it does not hinder me from watching it.
This movie is based on the true story of Homer Hickam, who was inspired by sputnik making it's way across the sky... In a small mining community, in West Virginia, Homer Hickam and three other skeptical students found themselves setting off rockets in hope of winning a science fair! If you're not football material, in Coalwood, you ended up working in the mines. Thus, winning this science fair was a chance at something more. Through hard work and determination these "Rocket Boys" would win the hearts of their community; and they captured something that was considered unobtainable...
Now can't you tell that "October Sky" is an inspirational movie! :D
The Lord be with you and have a wonderful rest of the week. :)

Learning from God - 11 - Walking "Alone"

 Friday, October 21, 2011

Are you ever really walking alone...? On those days when you are just walking by yourself and feeling perhaps a little lonely, are you really alone? There is great comfort in knowing that Jesus is there, walking right by you, holding your hand. It's an amazing gift, that I personally, forget to accept.

"Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts for the coming of the Lord is at hand."   -James 5:7-8

"Lord, all my desire before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You."   -Psalm 38:9

"casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you."  -1 Peter 5:7

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."  -Psalm 23:4

"Fear not, for I with you; be not dismayed, for I your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."  -Isaiah 41:10

"By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit."  -1 John 4:13

"Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, for I am with you always, to the end of the age."  -Matthew 28:20

"Be still, and know, that I am God."  -Psalm 46:10

When you're walking "alone" don't forget to say "hello" to the "Person" next to you. :)
The Lord be with you and have a wonderful rest of the week.

October Joggin' Days

 Wednesday, October 19, 2011

I love working out! If only I would actually make myself do it more often. Anyway I would usually just work out on our property. So after six months we have finally found a nice little walk way. :) Since it isn't smoldering out like it was in the summer I have increased the amount, of walking/jogging, to 2 miles. Yes, I'm so proud of myself. ;) Hopefully these wonderful fall days will last a while. :)

"The Screwtape Letters"

 Sunday, October 16, 2011

The only reason I started reading this book was because I was going to join a book club. Unfortunately I haven't even been to one meeting yet...and I finished the book. lol Wonder what their next book will be? ;)
Anyway I really enjoyed "Screwtape Letters," which was written by C.S. Lewis.  When I had finished reading this book my mother asked me if I felt convicted about anything, because this book discusses various ways in which a person can be tempted. Honestly I didn't feel really any conviction though it did help me think of things to watch out for and to check myself on. This book, I believe, is more for an older genre of people, in their twenties. The reason why is because it discusses dating and the like, which I am not even thinking about at my age. Also I think guys would be able to relate more because the "patient" is male.
Now for what the book is actually about. :)
Wormwood is a demon in training and Screwtape is his mentor. The "patient" is a guy who Wormwood is in charge of. Since it is from the perspective of demons there may be some confusion when they capitalize certain words about satan and calling God the "enemy." Fortunately these things didn't create much of a distraction for me. Every chapter has different instructions or "lessons" that Screwtape gives to Wormwood. After awhile of reading this book you will notice that Wormwood isn't very efficient at his job. ;)
So after all that I do indeed recommend this book! :) My advice is to take your time reading it!
God bless and have a wonderful rest of the week!

"It is funny how mortals always picture us as putting things into their minds: in reality our best work is done by keeping things out."
-C.S. Lewis (Screwtape Letters)

Unpacked, again?

 Tuesday, October 11, 2011

After around six months I have finally seen my best friends again! :D We just couldn't handle them living so far away that we had to have them move here! So, yes we did unpack again. lol My muscles are a little sore. ;) It was funny because it didn't feel like it had been that long since we had seen them. Although I don't think I could go another six months without them again!

Takin'  a little break from unpackin'
Run, run to the beach.  lol

For some reason I just love this photo and the next one.

God bless and have a wonderful rest of the week!
