My Sweet Sixteen Birthday!!

 Saturday, February 26, 2011

I'm 16!!!! Ahhhh!!!  Wow that doesn't even feel right. lol ;) Do you think it's time for me to start studying for my permit? lol I know I'm lazy. :D To start my 16th birthday out I went to go take a math test!!! I know, why, just why did it have to be on my birthday?! lol Anyway after having some anxiety about the math test, which the Lord has been tremendously helping me with, I went home and was given my birthday present from my brother!!  It was a bookmark and a twenty dollar gift card to a book store!!!! He's so sweet! After he had spent that money on me he is broke...it kind of makes me feel bad that he did so much for me. I love you bro!!!  Can you guess what one of the books I'm planning on buying is?...Northanger Abbey! :D Btw I collect bookmarks. :) Also my aunt J sent me fresh flowers, that are absolutely beautiful!  When my mom called me to listen to the answering machine it was some of my friends singing Happy Birthday! Guess what?! We also might have sold our house!! :)  All this and it wasn't even twelve yet!!!  After several hours of resting we went over to my grandparents house.  My aunt C, the one we went and saw in Chicago, and my great-grandfather(Papou) came in for it!  After we had some delicious food, that was homemade, my brother opened his presents that he wasn't able to get on his actual birthday.  Once he was done oohing and ahhing it was my turn!! From my aunt B, who wasn't able to come, I got the book The Little Prince and some French CD's with a book to go along with it!  From my Papou I got this absolutely beautiful jewelry box that has the Eiffel Tower sketched on the top!!! It is so special to me!!! From my aunt C I got a bracelet that has my name sketched on it and has the year and from her on the back! Also I got a journal from her!  My grandparents got me some really pretty clothes, which I will be wearing today, a one hundred dollar check, and some really pretty necklaces! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! SO I FOUND OUT THAT THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE ME TO FRANCE!!!  My grandparents are going to pay the plane ticket, Papou is going to pay for all my expenses there, and my Aunt C and B will be taking me!! The only bad thing is that it will be in a year and a half to two years! Don't worry I don't mind the wait. ha ha lol  Now I'm completely spoiled! lol  This is definitely a sixteen birthday to remember!! Not just because of the presents but the love that was surrounding me!

Here are some pictures of the lovely flowers!!! This is when they are not bloomed yet.

"The Hobbit" Review by My Brother

 Friday, February 25, 2011

Hello, I am... well I can't say my name for safety reasons but I am bookworm's brother, but from now on i'll be referred to as Tech, the name isn't permanent. lol. This is my first official blog post that I've done so comment and tell me if I did good. This book it about the tales and adventures of Bilbo Baggins and his crew of Dwarves proving that everyone one has a little bit of the Took side in him and wants adventure. The version of the Hobbit I was reading is The Annotated Hobbit, which is practically the Hobbit with lots of side notes, pictures of the covers of the book in the past, illustrations, ect. No I did not read a kiddyfied version. I really enjoyed all of the "Commentary"(is what I call all of it) in the book. The only thing I didn't like about the commentary was in some parts I could see the picture of what was about to happen before it happens! The book writing style is different to The Lord of The Rings trilogy, but I like the difference. If you've ever read it you will know how it enlightened you on all the little cool things that you notice while watching the movies. I really like this book, it had some slow or should I say fast parts because in one chapter it seemed very rushed. I can't quite explain it; it was like do be do be da, this is what happened, lets move on. If you get what I mean.

But some chapters were really good. I especially enjoyed "Riddles In The Dark" where Bilbo, the main character, has to save his own life by telling riddles and answering riddles to please Gollum, or Sméagol if you remember from the Trilogy. I remember reading the riddles and then covering the rest of the page to see if I could guess one. I loved that chapter. I feel in ways J.R.R. Tolkien was trying to go against the grain in respects of killing the dragon, Smaug,  ( btw killing the dragon and taking back the treasure was their mission of Bilbo and the Dwarves which I'll come back to) , where was I, oh yes I give him respect for doing something different, but I wish Smaug died the way you think, when you are reading the book. This book definitely gave more insight into the lives of dwarves and hobbits for that matter in their habits and overall honorable characters. Overall I really liked The Hobbit. I'm glad I read this book, and I am looking forward to reading this book aloud to my children in the future.

"Northanger Abbey"

 Monday, February 21, 2011

Since the movie was so amazing I decided to read the book!!! My review on the movie is in this link HERE!  Unfortunately, because I have already watched the movie, this book did not hold me in utter suspense. :( I felt as though I was reading the script, in some aspects.  Actually I'm quite surprised on how well the movie went by the book.  My advise, read the book first!  In the movie I was confused about Catherine Morland's age(main character), at the beginning of the film, so to clarify she was 18(at least in the book.)  I feel like this book is quite easy to relate to! This wonderful novel was written by Jane Austen!! Now to the review! Catherine Morland is a reader, which is always a good thing! lol  Through some parts you will see her love of reading!  Catherine's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Allen, invited her to be their companion to Bath.  Once arriving Mrs. Allen and Catherine desired acquaintances and soon were friends with the Thorpes.  Isabella Thorpe soon became Catherine's best friend! During specific parts I feel like Isabella deceived her on her real motives for doing certain things. Especially going to go see a hat when she really wanted to see those pesky guys that wouldn't stop looking at them.  This wouldn't be the last time Isabella did one thing in pursuit of another...   Later she becomes, Catherine's brother James, fiancée. Along with the Thorpes Catherine becomes acquainted with the Tilneys.  Immediately liking them she barely desired anything else than to become more acquainted with them. Another acquittance of her's is John Thorpe, whom I despise! Such a lying and conniving person!  I leave you to find out... ;) Although he isn't in the book a great deal.  When her time at Bath is almost spent General Tilney, Henry and Eleanor's father, asks Catherine if she would like to be their guest at Northanger Abbey!  During the book when it was storming outside her first night at the Abbey, I was reading this, when I hear thunder outside of the window!! It was quite cool. lol  The general continued to be all manners and was exceedingly attendant to her, which pained me so...   Later Catherine is, basically, kicked out of the house! I won't tell the reasons. :) When she is back at home her mind is adrift till Henry comes. You get the picture. :) One thing I think this book should have had was them falling in love. Like I said in the movie review, you know they love each other but you don't see it come about.  Btw I absolutely love the last paragraph!  Unfortunately this review is over. :( I really loved the book but I would have loved it ten times more if I hadn't watched the movie first.  Don't make the same mistake.

Mr. Camera

 Tuesday, February 15, 2011

I'm not joking when I say the weather has been beautiful here!  I love how it is not really cold, but you still need a light jacket.  Why can't it stay this way all the time?!!  While I was trying to take a picture for 'bright white' for the Scavenger Hunt Sunday I took this photo!!!

And to think this is the same camera that I use for other things... lol  Btw it's only a 8 mega-pixel camera
Should I name my camera? Some people name their camera, like Katie named her's Mr. Darcy.  Seems like fun to name it, perhaps I could name mine Mr. Tilney? lol Anyway have a blessed day!

Northanger Abbey

 Wednesday, February 9, 2011

This is not going to be my normal kind of review, since I won't be telling the plot... I absolutely love Northanger Abbey!!  The version I watched is the Masterpiece one.  Unfortunately I do have to critique some things.  One of the things that bothered me the most was the cleavage. :P  You mainly see it from Catherine Morland's(the main female character) friend Isabella Thorp.  Several times you see her in her under garments that are very low cut and in some other parts.  Also Isabella is seen in bed with a blanket wrapped around her.  We did fast-forward some of Catherine's imaginations.  The reason these parts bothered me so, was because we were watching it with my brother, whom we had look away.  Btw there was some cursing but very little.  Now on to the good stuff! As I said before I loved this movie!  It was so romantic!   I absolutely love the part where they are outside, soaking wet, and he wipes the dirt from her face!!  I have to say I'm not a romantic kind of person, but when it comes to books and movies...! lol ;) Might I add that I'm not like Catherine though. lol The feel in this movie differs from that of Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion, in some respects.  So don't worry about feeling like your watching the same thing just in different plots.  Perhaps the reason I feel like it differs is because Northanger Abbey seems more real and relates to a younger demographic. The casting was splendid I have to say.

Although I thought it a bit odd how Henry Tilney(the main male character) fell in love with Cathrine.    Perhaps it was the age difference for me...  Also throughout the movie you knew they were in love but you didn't really see it come about.  At the end though Cathrine and Henry have this kissing scene, which was a bit overdone.  Please, please don't get me wrong I love this movie.  For some reason it's easier for me to critique than tell what was really good in it. :P

Btw I am dying to read the book! I know what I'm doing for spring break!
Now that I have read the book here is the review to it, Northanger Abbey
