Fall is HERE!

 Thursday, September 30, 2010

Fall is readily received this year! The summer was so hot! Finally I've been able to enjoy a cool breeze and actually be outside! I absolutely love this time of year! So while I was enjoying the nice weather I decided to draw a little...I'm quite sure I'll never be an artist. lol I love to draw but when I see my work...yeah...lol. One good thing is that I can actually draw birds, surprisingly well. Sometime in the future I'll post some of my work. ;) Also while I was outside I read some of To Kill a Mockingbird. I'm really enjoying it. It was funny because on the first day that it actually got chilly we were able to be with my friends the next day. There was no way you were going to be able to keep us inside. lol I'm enjoying the weather while I can! Don't squander your time playing video games, playing on the computer(I'm guilty of this one), and just being lazy during this fall. That's what freezing temperatures are for! :)

Symphony with a Bonus

 Sunday, September 26, 2010

Recently my grandparents came in just to visit us! It was so great to see them! They live far away so we don't get to see them as much as we would like. Before the symphony started we all stopped by my work so they could see it. Once we were done sight seeing we went and got something quick to eat. When we finally arrived there we met up with some friends and made it to our seats. The symphony was amazing! I absolutely loved it! I have a slight thing for classical music. lol I think I could appreciate it more because my brother has been having classical music play every time he reads. It was really nice to actually see the people perform. If you ever have a chance to go and witness a symphony, do!

In the Company Secrets

I love this series! Something funny I did was that I started the second book first! :P After I finished the second one I started the first one. The book In the Company of Secrets is great! This book shows love and the consequences of sin. Actually it helped me. In this book Olivia, the main character, lies an innumerable amount and it showed me my own fault in this matter. What I lie about is to give someone a compliment. Now I know there is a difference between discretion and flat out lying. Here is an example: a person might ask do you like my shoes, and you don’t like them at all, and you say yes. I call that discretion. Although when you notice a person with new shoes and you say you like them without being asked, I would probably call that a lie. In matters consistent with that is what I do. Back to the book! Also I love how this book shows versus from the Bible and had good Christian morals. Unfortunately the second book, Whispers Along the Rails, lacks in that. This book, unlike the second and third one, is from one person’s point of view.

Whispers Along the Rails

Book two in this series greatly added to you knowledge of the characters. Also this book gave you the perspective of three different people. I absolutely loved reading this book! Unfortunately it did have dry spells and some other stuff I didn’t like. Once of the things I didn’t like was how Fred and Ellen would kiss, it was no because they loved each other, but to make it look like he wasn’t caught up in a unionization movement. By the way it didn’t have as much Christian things in it, how the first one did. Although it has these downers it was still a great book to read. Between the first and second book I’m not quite sure I can make up my mind to which is the better. Now for the positive elements! Whispers Along the Rails is suspenseful! Also it had more about what was going on, politically wise, in Pullman. If you want to try new recipes then you can look at the back of each book and they have a lot of recipes.

An Uncertain Dream

The last and final book from the Post Cards from Pullman series! I was very disappointed with this book in certain aspects. Throughout An Uncertain Dream it had tons of interesting facts about the strike, although it was times a bit redundant. Also through the beginning and middle of this book Olivia’s life doesn’t take new turns. Each day of her life seemed the same. My fondness for Olivia and Fred went downhill. Surprisingly the life of Charlotte and Matthew I was most interested in. Their lives, which are intertwined with everyone elses, had a lot more story, true love, kindness for each other, and quite a bit more sincerity to it. Strangely enough the author, Judith Miller, tried to complete the book within fifty pages. The book is three hundred and eighty something pages! Once the book was over you were still left not knowing quite a bit. I don’t like it when they make you use your imagination. :P Although this was not my favorite out of the series does not mean you shouldn’t read it. Another thing to add is that I did not see the sincerity in some characters to be Christians. At times you would wonder if they were just doing it to get with the girl. Please don’t think this book was all bad. I loved certain parts and would still full heartedly recommend this series.

Rating:
Series- 1 through 10 = 8
Attention keeper- 1 through 10 = 7
Character development- 1 through 10 = 9

Remember God Remembers

 Monday, September 6, 2010

Already I have written two reviews and I am planning on posting a couple more. Because of the many reviews I'm doing this month I thought it would be good to give an update on my life. Excitingly I'm going to be starting my very first job!!! I can't wait! Also I'm extremely nervous! Please pray for me! After I had filled out an application I called back a couple days later. Once I called back the person told me that they didn't need me. When near to a week passed I got a call and this person told me that they in fact did need me! :D That was definitely God! Anyway I'm sick right now! :P I'm just thankful that I'm not sick on my first day of work! I feel like giving a lot of praise to the Lord! :D Right now I'm listening to a sermon. he he I can multi-task! I just learned something really cool while listening to this sermon. Zachariah's, in the Bible, name meant God remembers. Zacharias' wife, Elizabeth, name meant His oath. When you put them together it means God remembers His oath. I thought that was cool! :) Never forget that the Lord is there, even during hard times! Read your Bible because God speaks to us through His word!

Conspiracy Theory

 Saturday, September 4, 2010

My family and I watched this movie a couple of days ago and loved it!!! I have to warn you though that the beginning is quite freaky! If you can get past that the rest of the movie is great! This movie is about a guy that comes up with tons of conspiracy theories and gets one right. For some reason this movie did not become famous. It is a suspense thriller! Btw I love suspense thrillers! The only thing bad it had in it was occasional cursing. Although it has less of that than movies that are made during this time period! Unfortunately while we were watching Conspiracy Theory it continued to, basically, have this loud busing throughout it! :P Despite that it did not ruin our time watching it. I recommend this movie!

"A Study in Scarlet"

 Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Hello again! I had to seriously consider if I was going to write a review on this book. I voted for it! :) The reason I decided for it, is because I was extremely confused during this one part of the book. It almost didn't make it as enjoyable as it could have been. I'll clear up that part for you. :D First of all A Study in Scarlet is a Sherlock Holmes book! I didn't know how much I would enjoy them! At the beginning of the book you are going through the case with them, might I add that you will be a little in the dark, which makes it more of a mystery. Also I imagined Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson quite differently. I'll leave you to make that judgement for yourself, when you hopefully read this book. When you are at the end of the case and the murderer is captured it leads you into a completely different story. At first I thought it was a different book! I'll call this part of the book the second part. The second part is very good! In the beginning of this second part you'll be apt to want to quite reading it. Why might this be? Because it's about mormons and your wondering if the person writing this book, Aurthur Conan Doyle, is for them and so on. Trust me he is not. It revealed quite a bit about mormons that I certainly didn't know. Here is some advise! Remember the people that died and the murderers name! Ha ha I just looked at how much I had written and I wasn't planning on writing this much. :P Anyway this is a very good book that I definitely recommend! One thing I have to say it did have one curse word but I don't believe it had anything else. Hopefully this inspired you to read Sherlock Holmes!
